Stupor
STUPOR is a gestural meditation on the Los Caprichos etchings of Francisco Goya. The entire piece is a picaresque cycle of vignettes, some comic, some darkly erotic, some violent—all visually gorgeous. The accompanying soundtrack includes an explosive combination of country blues, drones, and sculpted noise. It is performed by eight actors and can be performed in a variety of spaces.
STUPOR premiered in 1999 at the Philadelphia International Fringe Festival. It has been performed at the Smoke Performance Space, at the Arden Theatre in Philadelphia, and at the Andy Warhol Museum in Pittsburgh, PA.

REVIEWS:

“A shining moment in Philadelphia Theater...strangely beautiful and affecting...darkly erotic...Nothing invigorates a critic faster than a show that’s truly sui generis, a concoction that sneaks up on you and knocks you flat with its impudence, ingenuity, and individuality. Item: New Paradise Laboratories’ STUPOR. (One of the) Top 15 Productions of the past 10 years” The Philadelphia Inquirer

"...opens the door to a strange new world...an almost overwhelming explosion of stimuli...” The Philadelphia Weekly

“...athletic mod ballet...funny and fraught with meaning...” The Philadelphia City Paper
